CREW PROFILE
Captain, Douglas Zakes
Captain Doug is a U.S. Coast
Guard Licensed Captain and fully qualified Offshore Yacht master with over 10
years of experience and a warm personality. He began his career cruising the Hawaiian
Islands, and has since then chartered extensively throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean,
West Coast of the United States and Mexico. In addition, he has made several transatlantic
crossings. Doug is familiar with all aspects of vessel operation and has captained
motor yachts as large as 130ft. Along with his extensive sailing experience and
easy manner, he is also a PADI certified diver and windsurfing instructor. Lastly,
Doug received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Oregon State
University where he played varsity soccer.
First Mate/Engineer, Julio Grabiel
Julio is a fun yet professional
yachtsman with over eight years experience, who understands the need for passenger
peace of mind and safety. He has a complete understanding of all ship and navigational
systems, with over 40,000 nautical miles of successful commission and delivery
of luxury yachts. Before joining the crew of "Mi Nina", Julio captained
sailing and motor yachts from 60ft to 80ft in southern Florida, the Bahamas, Mexico
and Southern California. Julio is fluent in English and Spanish with an understanding
of Portuguese and French. He recently completed his International Yacht Charter
license, and also has his PADI Advanced Open Water Dive certification.
Assistant Chef/Stewardess, Katherine
Flavell
Katherine is a hardworking
and reliable member of the "Mi Nina" crew. She has over three years
experience working as a stewardess and assistant chef on boats as large as
125ft.,
and has set impeccable standards for both the yachts she maintains and the
meals she prepares. Katherine was born and raised in England where she received
the
Cordon Bleu Certificate from the Manor School of Fine Cuisine. Katherine loves
outdoor activities and has been a water ski instructor in the past.
