topography of the BalearicsThe Topography of the Balearics is wide and varied.  MALLORCA on the North Coast has dramatic cliffs with mountains behind rising as high as 1445 meters above sea level.  MENORCA, on the other hand, has a level landscape with some rolling hills.  The center of FORMENTA spreads out in a long narrow depression which runs Northward where it ends in salt pans and two large lakes.  The entire Coastline is bordered by beautiful beaches with fine white sand.

ClimateTypical of the Western Mediterranean, the Spanish Isles experience very hot days with little or no breeze.   However, there are occasional mistral winds with enough intenisty to upset charter plans.  The sea slate can be bumpy even in calm weather due to a back swell created by the steep cliffs.

CuisineSpanish cooking is rich and varied, much like the country itself.  First-rate ingredients, the excellence of which are renowned, wise old popular traditions and the promotion of fine new culinary professionals have boosted Spain's gastronomic prestige to the top of the list in Europe over the past few years.   A fine array of restaurants reflect a country where the people love, respect and enjoy good food.

Traditional Fiestas

The wealth and historical longevity of Spanish cultural traditions, together with the many different cultural influences are responsible for the beauty and originality of the fiestas held each year in the towns and villages of Spain.  Nuestra Senora de Garcia in Menorca (early September) is one of Spain's most colorful horse festivals.

Currency The Spanish currency is the Peseta.  Most charter yachts however, quote their weekly rates in U.S. dollars.   Money can be exchanged at banks, currency service offices, many hotels and travel agencies.  Major credit cards and Traveler's Cheque's are widely accepted.
